The persecution was not only of the physically violent variety. I was involved in at least 175 lawsuits over the next 16 years.  
     
  That ‘s approximately 1 per
month. I would have loved
to have been on retainer for
him in those days.
 
   
  I was trapped in a dilemma as a result of this constant legal pressure. My enemies did not hesitate to go outside the law to enforce legal actions against me and the newly founded Church.  
   
     
  Hey, Joe. That judge may
have ruled in your favor, but we are still going to teach you a lesson. Watch your back.
 
  But when we wanted redress,
we stayed inside the law.*
 
   
  We believe in . . . obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
