JOSEPH SMITH, JR.
BORN DECEMBER 23, 1805

BORN IN SHARON, VERMONT, JOSEPH WAS THE FIFTH OF 11 CHILDREN. HE WAS LARGE IN STATURE AND A STRONG, HARD-WORKING FARMER WITH ONLY THREE YEARS OF FORMAL EDUCATION. FROM THE TIME HE HAD HIS FIRST VISION AT AGE 14, HE EXPERIENCED CRITICISM AND PERSECUTION FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE, BUT HE NEVER DENIED HIS PERSONAL TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE TRUTHFULNESS OF THE BOOK OF MORMON.

ON JUNE 27, 1844, AT AGE 38, JOSEPH FORFEITED HIS LIFE FOR HIS TESTIMONY
