I was excited to hear this and knew it would give Joseph
confidence that, with the Lord ‛s help, he was capable
of doing the work. I wanted to help him as much as I could. “ I was satisfied that it was the Lord ‛s work, and I was under a covenant to [ help ] bring it forth.”1

I then put the certificate in my
pocket and, as I was leaving his
office, Professor Anthon called me
back and asked me a question.

  How did Joseph Smith
find out that there were
Gold Plates in the hill ?

  An Angel of God
revealed the records
unto him.

  What ? Let me see
that certificate !

  PREPOSTEROUS !
There is no such thing
now as ministering
Angels !

You ‘re tearing it up !
