Baptism is so important that even Christ was baptized to set an example of
obedience to God ‛s commandments. (see Matthew 3:11-17 ; Moroni 6:1-4 ; 2nd Ne. 31:6-13).
 
     
  2nd Nephi 31:5 And now, if the Lamb of
God [ Christ ], He being Holy, should have
need to be baptized by water . . . how much more need have we, being unholy, to be baptized , yea, even by water !
 
  Baptism must be performed by someone who has authority from God ( Priesthood * ). This is one of the reasons Jesus went to John to be baptized. (see Hebrews 5:4-10 ; 1st Peter 2:5-9 ; 3rd Ne. 11:21, 25 )  
     
  Baptism is also for the remission
( or forgiveness ) of sins.
( see Mark 1:4 and 3rd Ne. 12:2 )
 
     
  Acts 2:38 . . . Repent and be
baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins . . .
