HOW TO CARE FOR AN OLIVE TREE
  Digging, Dunging, and Nourishing :
Covering the top of the roots with
the proper mix of soil and dung is very essential. If there is no manure, there will be no oil. They also demand wet winters and dry summers, which require digging very deep.

Trimming / Pruning : If you do not prune
an olive tree, it will become very bushy.
Where as, other trees become bushes by
pruning
. Pruning is for training and rejuvenation and causes new shoot growth.
The olive crop only grows on new branches
that result from the pruning of the old
branches in the fall.

Burning : The old branches must be removed and burned. If this is not done on a timely basis, the insects that infest the dry, pruned branches will attack and kill the mother tree.
